My New Book!!!

I’m really proud to have published my new book, a research publication entitled “The Impact of Values, Bias & Leadership on BME Recruitment in the Police”.

As a black police officer with 25 years service, I could sense the culture and barriers to BME people joining the service and achieving senior positions within the service. The barriers were unwritten, unspoken but very real. Therefore it was of great interest to research this phenomenon within my own police force and to put some science behind the culture and barriers I sensed. I am very proud to have achieved this and produce this research to inform police organisations, leaders and HR professionals and help overcome these barriers to recruitment, retention and progression of BME police officers.

The book offers some real life interpretations of how individual value systems, unconscious and conscious bias, police culture and leadership has impacted the police service’s inability to address the under-representation of black and minority ethnic (BME) officers in the service, particularly at senior ranks. It explores police culture, unconscious bias, individual value systems and white privilege in an attempt to understand why the police service has consistently failed to achieve a representative service in terms of BME officers.

The findings can relate to the majority of organisations which have failed to achieve true diversity within its ranks. Research has consistently shown that a diverse work force makes good business sense. It increases profitability. It also makes moral sense if you believe in true equality of opportunity in this diverse society in which we live.

What are you doing to make your organisation more diverse and representative of the community and customers it serves? I can help you.

The book is available on Amazon. I also have a limited number of copies at a discounted price.
